Making Mailspring your default mail client means that mailto: links in your browser and other applications open a new Mailspring draft.

1. Turn on the option in Mailspring

Open Mailspring, click the menu in the top right of the window, and choose Preferences. Under the General tab, check Use Mailspring as the default mail client.

2. Confirm the choice in Windows

Windows also keeps its own list of default apps, so you may need to confirm the change there:

1. Open Settings from the Start menu.
2. Go to Apps > Default apps.
3. On Windows 11, search for Mailspring in the list of apps, open it, and set it as the default for MAILTO links. On Windows 10, click the app shown under Email and choose Mailspring from the list.
